my favourite thing is looking super punk and having my earphones in so everybody like OOO BET SHES LISTENING TO SOMETHING HXC but in reality its one direction
Just I case you have not noticed :
- Liam takes questions about fans
- Harry takes questions about the music
- Niall takes the lighthearted questions
- Louis takes questions about relationships
- Zayn only takes questions directly aimed at him
I went out for dessert at FiRE & iCE with Tori and Gloria. We had fondue and it was as delicious as my Hollywood adventures I told them about. *wink* (at Anaheim GardenWalk)
it’s so interesting watching one direction grow up and find their own styles, though. like zayn can be all street style but then get daring on the red carpet, niall’s comfy no matter what, louis is all pop punk, liam’s discovered fancy coats and harry went from preppy to dead rockstar.
Oct 1st, 2013. Arctic Monkeys at The Wiltern
This was the last picture I took the night I went to go see Arctic Monkeys play in LA. It was my second night seeing them—their third and last show here. I arrived to the venue early enough to make it into the pit, yet I was at the very back of it. Once the band opened with “Do I Wanna Know”, I found it easy to move up a bit as people were scooting up as much as they could push. But then their second song “Brianstorm” started a mosh pit that pulled me in, shoved me around separating me from my friend, and dragged me to the center of the crowd. Normally I would enjoy a good mosh, but because this was my favourite band’s show, all I wanted to do was keep my eyes on Alex Turner without interruption. However, the bouncing-off-other-people allowed me to get closer to him with a better view, so I took advantage of it. Every time the fans would erupt into a dance riot, I’d take a few steps forward while taking pictures and videos and singing along.
I knew all their songs, and I myself was dancing with the guitar’s melody, head-banging to the beat of the drums and swaying my hips to the bass. I am at bliss here, celebrating my favourite songs by top musicians, alongside fellow fans. My body already ached from all the crushing fangirling in the male-dominated pit, my bruises from arms-in-the-air elbowing and fallen crowd-surfers were increasing in soreness, and at one point I was literally sandwiched between two fans, with me still holding my head above their shoulders to see Alex, and my arm straight ahead for optimized video-taking. My dress was soaked in a beer shower a tall guy gave me as he tried to take a sip of his drink during all the chaos; his whole cup fell on my head and right shoulder, the cold alcohol spilling down my dress, eventually reaching my shoes. I was having the time of my life! Living in the moment, yet with a mission to get as close as possible to the stage (in a fair way when the path would open up to me).
Half way through the show, the band played their latest ballad on AM—“No. 1 Party Anthem”—and then their romantic heart-broken love song “Cornerstone” from their third album Humbug. The crowd settled down to focus on Alex, now holding an acoustic guitar and crooning his soul out to the audience, keeping his gaze mostly up on the balcony. His fingers neatly plucking the guitar strings, Nick O’Malley rocking slowly to the music, and Matt Helders cooling down from a lively drum sesh—I took it all in. “Can I hold you around the waist during the song?” is what I suddenly listen to in my ear. I look up and there’s a guy staring at me thinking I’m going to let him. Incredulously, I laugh a bit and say no, hoping I had said “perhaps fuck off might be too kind” (which i later tweeted). I had to stand next to this guy for the rest of the song until the crowd rallied along to the next rock and roll jam.
The show was almost coming to an end, and I still had a few rows of people in front of me. It was now or never at this point, if I was ever going to get close to the band. The pit was packed with fans as a brick wall, yet I could still fit in a few open spots. I kept my head up, not only to watch Alex but to breathe in some oxygen. I was scared i would drop my phone and not be able to get it back, and I was determined that if any hands went up my dress (as they had been on me) I would just walk away. But as my luck would have it, a small fight broke out, parting the crowd in the front right before me, clearing the way to front row. I moved up just in time as Alex teased the introduction to their closing song “R U Mine?” (x). With just two short girls side-to-side in front of me, I could easily see the stage and band from where I stood, and I had Alex Turner right in front of me. His flawless complexion made him look like porcelain under the stage lights, and I could see the gold in his dark brown eyes as he looked out into the distance. I was in the perfect spot to watch their last song, and I took this one last picture so I could put my phone away and just live it.
Like a dream, the show ended as the scene faded to black, and all at once reality and the echo of the sounds were what was left. My dress was drenched in sweat it had collected from about a hundred people in the pit, my hair smelled like booze and pot (which i didn’t even bother to wash for my Disneyland job in the early morning), and my arms and legs had visible bruises that I was sort of proud of. It was definitely one of the best music experiences I’ve had all year, and because it was a band I’ve been wanting to see for years and knowing I might not get another chance to see them soon or in a smallish venue, I did what I had to do to see them up close if only for one song. Arctic Monkeys are a spectacular band to see live. Even though they’re having fun, you can tell they take their music and performance very seriously. Dirty guitar riffs are played with perfection, and Alex never fails to miss a lyric or to mispronounce it (while obviously having had at least a few drinks and whatnot). This photo sums up my night and it’s one of my favourite pictures I’ve taken all year. It is literally worth a thousand words, and here I’ve shared just a few. For AM being an LA record, it couldn’t get better than this! Until next time.
